We are Gold Elite members of Marriott Bonboy and in our frequent travels have stayed in Marriott hotels numerous times. In fact the night before we checked into the Gadsden Fairfield we had stayed at the Fairfield in Wytheville Virginia. We were therefore surprised and disappointed at what we encountered in Gadsden. Where to begin? We had, we thought, booked a King Suite. However we were informed that the hotel had 'overbooked' and we were given an extremely small room with a king bed instead. The room contained furniture that was shabby, chipped, and stained. There were empty brackets in the bathtub area that once had held something, and a bracket on the bathroom door had once no doubt had a clothes hook attached for towels and the like. There was one tiny 'cleansing bar' (soap?) for my wife and I to share. That complimented the very small vials of shampoo and conditioner that we also had to share. My wife and I each carry our own laptops, which need for our business. But the Internet would not connect, and we were given a phone number to call to rectify the 'problem'. When we finally had a connection about an hour and a half had gone by. Couldn't get much work done that night. We are on a road trip cross country, so naturally being aware of weather conditions is of great importance - but the Weather Channel is 'not an authorized channel' on the hotel's television. Why not? I am in fairly good physical condition, but had to assist my wife in handling the very heavy doors to the room, and inside as well. Can't see how an elderly person or slight woman could get into or out of the room. Add all that to an unconcerned and uninterested series of desk clerks who never once looked up to acknowledge or greet us as we passed, and you have to sum total of why we will never, ever, return to this place. The Fairfield Inn & Suites Gadsden compares very unfavorably to any Motel 6 at twice the price.
