Do you like being ignored and not helped with your bags etc at your riad? Do you love haggling around insane prices at the end of the day when you get back to your riad from the Medina market? What about rude staff? Dar ziryab is for you! It doesn’t matter if you’re a kind guest who tips extremely well, they will gouge you on extras, like laundry and not help with anything. Didn’t help with our bags, charged us two euros per piece of clothing we sent for laundry, after we argued about that finally they reduced it to 1 euro per single piece of underwear for laundry. Ridiculous. They kept asking when we wanted to pay during our stay way before the day we were leaving. The guy at the front was completely unhelpful, gave us some incorrect information, brought other staff to harass us about the 40 euros they wanted to charge us for a single load of laundry (no pressing). It was bizarre. Every other place we have stayed we have had amazing service and kind hosts/riad staff. My friend and I were relieved to finally get out of there and move on with our Moroccan trip. Having done Fez, I would recommend instead staying at a riad inside the medina, there are many and they were well placed and gorgeous. Dar ziryab is far from the Medina and you won’t get any help or useful information from the staff. It’s a pretty riad though, but poor lighting and tacky decor bring down the intricate architecture . Not worth it, and the only negative tourist experience I’ve had in Morocco.
