I booked this hotel last minute for a business day in Durham, and due to a large conference in the city, all of the hotels I normally stay at were booked. This was the next closest in proximity. Given my past experiences with Residence Inn, I understand the standard quality and expectations for this brand, but I was really shocked to see my experience versus the average review here. Firstly, the location is quite awkward, next to an abandoned lot and a gas station where people were loitering. Check-in was efficient, but the hotel lobby is very tired and dirty, clearly in need of renovations. There was a little table in the corner of the lobby showcasing potential future renovations, but it was very haphazardly placed. The tablecloth was crooked, and it looked like something that was put up three years ago in anticipation, but nothing ever came of it. The elevators and hallways leading to the room were also worn out, with marks on the walls and baseboards, and litter on the floors. The room itself, while large and spacious, was in poor condition. The appliances were dusty, and the counters were not in the best shape. The bed was very firm and bouncy, and the bathroom was also subpar, with only one soap product available for use the next morning. The complimentary breakfast was very disappointing, with low-quality options, and even the coffee didn't taste good. I've stayed at Residence Inn hotels in the past and had good experiences, but this one was definitely subpar.
