Hotel High Plains

This is a beautiful looking hotel from the outside. But the 2 times we visited, there were sadly very few people in there. There is a fire pit out the front with seats and benches but not once while we were in Dinner Plain did we see it lit. The menu was not enticing enough for us to stay and eat and the restaurant was closed both times we were there, only serving food in bar and dining room. I just feel that with some minor changes and making it more inviting would bring more people in.

We stayed during autumn on a 4WD trip with a group of about 30. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating for the large group. Great wine, good food, lots of parking. Rooms were large and well appointed. Great pillows and sheets! Loved all of the hooks over the heater for toasty towels and jackets for those cold mornings.

The hotel was great, we had a large room, well equipped, tea and coffee, and a large comfy bed. Easy access outside to nice picnic and drink area. Great service, v kind at reception and at dinner. We had a lovely stay. We would most gladly return.

we just love the Hotel High Plains - it was our second visit in just a few weeks. David is a wonderful host, the bar has a great atmosphere, excellent local wines at amazing prices, cosy rooms, and the eternal beauty of Dinner Plain and the High Country - what's not to like? Thanks David!

We somehow booked the wrong dates however we were quickly accommodated in the exact same room type without any hassle. The room was very comfy and the onsite food and drinks were great. They even have a guest laundry and a communal kitchen. Would totally recommend.

My friend and I stayed here the night before hiking. It was well worth arriving early because Dinner Plain is an absolute delight in Spring. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel has heaps of seating outside. The restaurant was delicious, and staff friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely stay here again.

My family and friends attended a function at the hotel over a weekend that went very smoothly with the collaboration of Helmut, even exceeding our expectations. Our large group was well-fed with a share-platter lunch to the table accompanied by lovely wines. Helmut worked well with the organiser to produce the right size and perfect combination of offerings for our event. Our group had the run of the restaurant and bar for the function, providing a safe and secure environment for the youngsters who were entertained also playing pool. The rooms were large and quite comfortable, though don't expect to watch TV. (As there's lots to do in and outdoors, however, poor reception is no great loss.) The bathrooms are modest in comparison but, have the essentials. We enjoyed a meal and entertainment also at another establishment close by, with expansive seating for chatting over morning coffee. Good weather with bright sunshine was an added bonus; a perfect backdrop to the stunning views at nearby Mt Hotham and surrounds.

Staff were so helpful and kind. Accommodation perfect. Could buy groceries in bright and cook in common kitchen or go to the pub restaurant for dinner. Beautiful kiln pizzas and nice starters. Pool table, fairy lights, happy faces.

We ate at the Hotel High Plains two nights in a row whilst we were staying in Dinner Plain over the Cup Weekend. The food was absolutely fantastic and the service was wonderful. The menu caters for all tastes and the quality of food is absolutely wonderful. The service of all the staff was exceptional - they were all so warm and friendly. We will be eating there again as soon as we return to Dinner Plain!
