Firstly, the hotel absolutely was not typically Austrian. Perhaps from the exterior, but inside it felt more like a hotel that was renovated by foreigners who have no idea of the austrian feeling that tourists are looking for. It felt cheap, underdressed and forced. My travel partner described it very well; a pop-up store feeling. As if it was made in a day and ready to be removed from the surface of the earth the next. The hotel was noisy, children running and screaming through the hotel at 22:30 without anyone from the hotel correcting them. People shouting, running, stomping the walls. Also, the walls were thin as air, which allowed the neighbours to wake us up several times throughout the night. The dinner was a typical example of misinterpretation of Austrian food. Breakfast felt very unnatrual, everything felt cheap and forced, the space was too small, had no atmosphere, etc. I have never felt this uncomfortable in a hotel, ever. The staff wasn't very nice, grim faces, no initiative, not receptive, felt untrained. I felt like I was in my local Döner place. I am Austrian myself, but living abroad. I spend my time in Austrian hotels/Zimmerfrei/B&Bs at least 3x per year, but have never witnessed this. Also, I have never paid more for 1 night in a hotel than this in Austria. Conclusion: very happy to be home and never coming back.
