"The room was clean, the breakfast was good and the service was good. The hotel's own protection area is very large, and the forest trail is very good. There are many gardens and nearby road birds near the hotel reception desk, and the environment is good. The only downside is that the room is far from the hotel reception desk and the restaurant, and it is not convenient for bad legs."

"Rooms very clean and spacious and staff friendly and helpful. We wouldn’t recommend the restaurant though as portions were very small, food very cold and price outrageous. No hot water until late afternoon. I would also ask the management to put bird stickers on the restaurant windows as occasional poor hummingbirds run through it and got stunned. Other local hotels do it already."

Toucanet Lodge

"I came to this region along with my husband, brother and sister-in-law primarily to go birding. El Toucanet Lodge was the perfect base for our activities. It is located in the Copey de Dota region surrounded by the mountains of the Los Santos Forest Reserve region of Costa Rica. The scenery is spectacular. It is not a very touristy area. The lodge is in a beautiful location with separate guest rooms tucked into the landscape, providing lots of privacy for each guest. Waking up in the morning and looking out over the spectacular landscape was my favorite thing. The restaurant on the grounds provides a delicious breakfast while you look at hummingbirds and other wildlife. We had dinner most nights there as well. The food was terrific, and portions were generous. Be sure to try the avocado ice cream! It was so good. A short walk up the hill from the lodge, and you can see the majestic and colorful Quetzal and other amazing birds. Our room was very comfortable with a king-sized bed, small kitchen area and great views. Miguel greeted us, arranged anything we needed. He is a terrific host and person."

"Die letzte Haltestelle unseres Costa Rica Abenteuers und ein großes Finale. Die Unterkunft ist auf hoher Höhe mit absolut erstaunlichen Blicken auf die umliegenden Berge und Tale verwickelt. Die Unterkunft war hervorragend und unser Balkon hat erstaunliche Aussichten auf wunderschöne Sonnenuntergänge . Die gebotenen Mahlzeiten waren fabulös und die Blickplattform außerhalb des Essensraums war mit einer Reihe von verschiedenen Hummingbird-Arten lebendig . Die Unterkunft war unsere Basis, von der wir hoffen, die schöne Rennende Quetzal zu finden und wir waren nicht enttäuscht. Ein großer Palz zu bleiben, wenn dieser Vogel auf Ihrer Wunschliste steht."

"Auf unserer 3 Wöchigen Reise durch Costa Rica waren wir 2 Nächte in dieser wunderschönen Lodge. Die Betreiber waren super freundlich und die Lodge ist wunderschön. Den nahe gelegenen Nationalpark kann man sich getrost sparen, wenn man Quetzals sehen will. Lieber die Betreiber der Lodge nach dem Geheimtip fragen. 😉 Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet und wenn man Kolibris mag, ist man hier goldrichtig."
