Sonder at Jewelers Row

I stayed at Sonder Jewellers Row in April. Our apartment was located on the 5th floor right above the rail line. Yes, we were provided with ineffective devices in an attempt to mitigate the unrelenting noise. These devices were useless. Having just stayed at a hotel in George St, Sydney, I highly recommend Sonder Jewellers row invest in decent soundproofing. The response I received to the feedback provided to Sonders was woeful. Suffice to say, I will never consider wasting my money staying at any Sonders establishment.

No AC!!! Our room was unbearably hot. The units are all set to heat or AC. So, if you stay in April (which the owner still considers to be winter) you only have the option for heat, not AC. We were given two fans and told to open the windows. The only windows are in the living room and face dead space in between buildings, so outside air is not able to cool the unit. This was my first experience at a Sonder. After reading every review I could find, I was optimistic. Upon first impression, I found the units to be nice and roomy. The layout is good. Everything was as expected except for the temperature in the room. The listings on the Sonder website and other hotel sites clearly indicate that the Sonder at Jewelers Row has AC. Well, it only does if the owner actually turns the hvac system in the building to AC instead of heat.

We've stayed in numerous Sonder hotels and they seem to all be managed differently. Pros: Excellent downtown central location. Comfortable beds and plenty of kitchenware. Cons: No 'essentials' cupboard that most Sonders have, any supplies need to be requested via the app and delivered to your room. Cleanliness wasn't great - I do not fault housekeeping for this as I assume they are not given enough time. However management should reduce the room price or hire more cleaners so their rooms are properly cleaned. (In my photos is the bedframe covered in dust and hair, windows covered in dust, lint pulled from dryer (granted this is due to lazy previous guests) wet wipe used to clean the washing machine and loose door handles) *Things to note: Hotel shares building with cigar LOUNGE (not solely a shop as disclosed on Sonder website) so active smoking all day all week. Whether you like cigar smell is individual but be aware it will be in the lobby, elevator, halls and some rooms. I wish the hotel would list reduced priced rooms for those affected by the smell. Likewise some rooms are located next to the L train and it's very loud. Again it's personal preference if this bothers you. Personally we hated the cigar smell and asked to move rooms, and were placed next to the L train which we don't mind. (Still couldn't open the windows though due to cigar smell coming in) Wouldn't stay again as price not justified for quality of hotel. We found Chicago extremely safe and walkable so would prefer to stay somewhere else and not pay for central location.

Excellent place, beautiful and furnished, comfortable and all central. I love the whole hotel in general and the security it provides to its guests, without a doubt it is a place that I would rent again and that I recommend to all people who want to get to know Chicago

We stayed for 2 weeks on a single bedroom unit. The appt is well equiped with a full kitchen, washer and dryer. The bed is really comfy, and the bathroom is big. I will definitely keep Sonder on my list of places to stay, for upcoming trips. The "contactless" approach might seem odd at first, but once you read the instructions, it all works perfect. The location at Wabash street is super convenient, everything is nearby. And the price was half what most hotels in the area were charging for a single room.

I travel to Chicago multiple times a year. With rising travel costs, Sonder remained affordable. We got the 2 bedroom apt and it was fully stocked with everything we needed. I didn't pack much bc there was a washer/dryer in unit, and I was able to do a lot of shopping. It was in a perfect location close to shopping, dining, Millennium Park and the Magnificent Mile, every single L line and one of the best coffee shops in the city (Goddess and the Baker). The apt was level with the elevated train line which was an amazing experience. There was noise from the train but it quickly became background noise and ear plugs from the Target next door helped in case you're a light sleeper. I will definitely stay at Sonder again. I traveled with 2 friends and it was their very first Chicago experience. They loved the place as well and we highly recommend it.

Other reviews mentioned it being small, but I thought it was quite spacious for two people. The other complaint was the train being loud, which it is. If you are a light sleeper this would not be your spot. After the first night, we slept right through the train noise. There is a cigar shop in the same building and the elevator and lobby reek of cigar smoke... but the 4th floor with the apartment smells clean and fresh. The washing machine/dryer is brand new and the nicest stackable unit I've ever seen. The bed was a really comfortable, and firm, memory foam mattress. The kitchen is well stocked. Sonder is quick to answer any questions through the app. I'd stay in another Sonder property in a heartbeat. Highly recommend this place.

There were mixed reviews about this property but we loved it. Traveled with my daughter and grandkids age 13 & 9. Plenty of room for everyone. The "L" stop is 1/2 block away so it was easy to travel anywhere in the city. We used the storage lockers on the 4th floor on our day of arrival since check in was not until 4PM. Beds were comfortable but walls do not come all the way to ceiling so can be noisy with kids and TV. 2 closets and stacking washer/dryer. Dryer came in handy since we got caught in downpour our first day. Sheets and towels were fairly high quality. Kitchen well stocked and starter coffee packs and toiletries were provided. Many restaurants nearby to suit everyone's taste. There is a cigar shop on 2nd floor but no noticeable odor. As noted in other reviews, communications are via email and their app. All was very efficient. We received security codes for main door, elevator and door 3 days before check in and we felt very safe in the area. We requested a higher floor and stayed in unit 513. We could faintly hear the L train but it did not disturb our sleep. If you want concierge, room service and a spa, this is NOT for you. If you want clean functional and roomy, this is your place!
