Golden Eagle

Just returned from a 1 night stay, which was my 1st SOLO trip. Perfect location just a few minutes away from the main area of Watergate. All the staff I spoke to were very friendly and welcoming. The double room was great , very clean. The bar area is fantastic loads of character, and the breakfast was superb. Offered refills on coffee, too. I will definitely return. Fresh flowers on all the tables as well. Great independent business who made my trip very special

We only had a brief stay at the Golden Eagle, but when we left it felt like we were leaving friends. It was that good. But give us small and friendly over a big hotel chain, every time. There are only a handful of rooms and ours (room 3) certainly met all of our needs. We had a comfy bed and pillows and a large en-suite shower. Plenty of towels, hot water and product. Breakfast was exceptionally good (we opted for the full English, which came with orange juice and toast and jams). The Eagle is really well placed for exploring all of Chester (a stones throw from the centre) and the river. We kept heading back there from our exploring to refresh with a beer or two. The owner (Martin?) keeps a great set of ales, really well and we both enjoyed sampling them. The Eagle represents excellent value and service and we would highly recommend it.

My wife and I Jackie frequent the Golden Eagle. It is both eclectic and bohemian and is the proud creation of Martin the landlord. Martin does a steak night on Tuesdays and my wife and I eat about once a month. Last week I asked Martin if he does any starters, he explained he hasn’t done but asked me what a fancied, to which I replied king prawns. On Monday night he said to us if you want to eat tomorrow he would get us some king prawns. Martin is a really nice man who looks after his guests and goes the extra mile. Last night I had griddled king prawns and scallops served with a crispy bacon garnish and lemon along with a rare sirloin with a jacket potato and salad. As usual Martin came to our table and asked us how our meal was. Needless to say it was perfect. The Golden Eagle is a hidden gem in an age of makeover artificial pubs this establishment is very special thanks to Martin and his fantastic staff.

Great old Skool pub, staff, beers and decor 10/10 my favorite pub when visiting Chester. The Sunday dinner is amazing and great value, great jukebox, also a pool table. My must try drink is Tiny Rebel, forget the posh pubs and try out the golden eagle, real pub . 👍

From the start we are welcomed by smiley owner and where disappointed to leave two days later as we had felt so welcome and comfy in our surroundings, You can tell the hotel is a passion for the owner Tasty breakfast well sourced products and cooked to perfection we shall be back

The owner and staff were super welcoming and helpful. Room was cozy, well decorated and comfortable. The breakfast was fabulous, had the full English to keep us going for the day. My Mum and I loved our stay and would most definitely stay again if ever in the area, there is a lot to go back for and this pub is one of them! Thank you to Martin and the staff.
