Residence Inn Cedar Rapids

It should be five out of five. 4.1 is way too low for this hotel.

This hotel is gross. There were so many issues with our stay. The carpet was dirty and nasty. We wore our shoes as much as possible. The room had dust bunnies on the light fixtures, so obviously these were not cleaned. The floor in one of the bedrooms was consistently wet/damp. The window treatments were not all attached to the rods. The light did not work over one of the vanities. The couch had hair all over it. The chair was wedged into a corner, it was also gross with food stains and when we lifted the cushion there was food. The edges of all the rooms had not been vacuumed, as there was food, hair, and lint. The stove was unusable because it was rusted and the side of the refrigerator was splatted with food debris. Some areas of the carpet had stains that looked like blood. The dresser drawers did not all open. There were several various styles of plates and cups. The toaster had mold in it. The back of the televisions were covered in dust so thick that you could write your name. The dust covering the air vents was quite thick. The air conditioner kept switching over to heat mode even though it was 90 degrees outside. All the light shades were dirty, stained and ripped, We were afraid to use the pool based on the conditions of the rooms. The kitchen/lobby area was out of sugar and the staff did not know when more would be available. We asked for the room to be cleaned but were told it gets cleaned on Fridays. We complained again and finally got someone in to sweep and dust. We mentioned our concerns to the front desk and were assured that the details would be handled but when we asked again no one knew what we were talking about. We even showed the front desk photos of our concerns. The steady answer we kept getting was that there would be no repairs because the hotel was set for remodeling. We still paid for decent accommodations and I do not care when or if a remodel will happen the hotel needs to be livable now.

The staff at this hotel, from General Manager and Operations Manager to housekeepers and dining room staff are first rate. The building needs a facelift from top to bottom. Our room was clean but well-worn. The staff is five star, the facility is functional but not up to expectations for this Marriott brand. We can recommend the hotel, but hope that the owners will bring the building up to the standard of their very fine staff.

We stayed just a night. Staff was super friendly upon check-in and gave us a small bag of goodies. The hotel seemed like it was fairly full. It was not as quiet as we would have liked mostly road noise. Overall, the hotel seemed worn but clean. Parking was fine.

Easily the most disgusting, worn down Marriott branded hotel I’ve ever stayed in. When staying in a hotel I know not to look too closely at cleanliness, but this was so horrific even a quick glance was enough to know this place hadn’t had a deep clean/update since it was built in the 80s. Checked in to the room with a clogged, full toilet of #2 from the previous guest. The oven/microwave had never seen as much as a damp rag. Peeling paint and wallpaper, multiple cigarette burns in the carpet, missing fire alarm, the thickest layer of dust on any flat surface you could see. If it weren’t for traveling with two dogs and unpacking a majority of our things already we would’ve immediately left and continued on our trip, and that’s after already driving for 10+ hours. Avoid this cesspool of a hotel at all costs, wouldn’t stay here again if you paid me.

I was in town for a bunch of days & rolled in after traveling thru a few connecting flights. I was greeted by the front desk with very polite & happy personnel. I was checked in quickly with a smile. The room was nice & clean, exactly what I expected from Residence Inns. Over the next few days I was always greeted with a smile & a friendly ‘hello’. I’ll definitely stay here again if back in town.

Our recent stay was just okay. The room was sufficient and as described, but the cleanliness of the room was less than desirable. We were in room 209 and the shower off the bedroom on the right side had black mold all over the curtain, and behind the toilet on the floor. Additionally, the hideabed has a broken bar that essentially eliminated all the support for the lower 40% of the bed. On Saturday morning, after checking in on Friday - I reported the bed situation to the individual at the front desk and that it was broken and I simply got “okay”. Not an apology, not a we will send someone up, etc. We returned to our room later on Saturday after the day in Iowa City - and it was the same old broken bed. On Sunday morning as we checked out, my wife approached the counter and the lady behind the counter stood there, scrolling through her phone. Not a thank you for staying, anything.

Over the past 30 years, we have stayed at many Residence Inns. We stayed here two nights. This property is showing its age. The furniture is worn; the ceiling tiles in the hallways are sagging; the entire place has the too obvious smell of Lysol - probably due to years of being a "pet friendly" property; the hot tub was out of order; the entryway doors were badly dented and scratched. I could go on. We have noticed the deterioration in the quality of other Residence Inns as well. Marriott's decision to only provide housekeeping services every other day does not help. Sad to see, what was once Marriott's top "Extended Stay" brand, become, at best, a "Two-Star" place to stay. We're done with Residence Inns. It's Fairfield Inns for us from now on. The contrast in quality is substantial.

The tub caulking had a lot of mold. The black out curtains had large holes. The side doors did not lock and were not secure. I saw the breakfast attendant take out trash with gloves on and then came back inside and touched food with the same gloves. The Yogurt/oatmeal toppings did not have spoons or anything for us to scoop them out. I told the housekeeper we were going to the pool and once we were out of the room we would remove the DND and I had asked to not enter the room until then. We come back to the room to see the housekeeper in our room, and she had the door propped open while our belongings were in the room and she said she thought maybe we were staying another night, So why ignore the DND if you thought we were staying again? They do not care about safety or privacy at all. There are much better places to stay in Cedar Rapids.
