I chose this hotel because it was fairly new and had excellent reviews. I was happy to find it, but honestly bummed I have to be the first to not extend a five-star review because it probably is five stars in other circumstances. Unfortunately, not ours. At checkin there were two people at the check-in desk. We were checked in by a man who honestly couldn’t care less. No hello, just, “name?” He sorted our room and then rattled everything off without ever making eye contact and sent us on our way. Whatever. The hallways and breakfast area are clean and the area around the hotel is beyond quiet. Breakfast was pretty solid and the lobby/seating area is very nice. The issue here was our room. The one we had may not have been one in normal use because upon opening the door the smell of mildew was overwhelming. I felt the carpet thinking maybe it had been cleaned and was still wet. I checked the shower and smelled around the sink and toilet. That’s how strong this smelled. Finding no particular source, and all in our group being overwhelmed, we immediately went to ask for a different room and were told “we just sold the last one, sorry.” In fairness, the woman at the desk was apologetic, kind, and offered to come spray some stuff which we passed on because that would have made it worse. After looking for another place in town, and finding everything booked in the area, we had no choice but to stay put. Unfortunately nothing worked to clear the mildew smell in the room. Since windows don’t open here we ran the bathroom fan, the AC, which made it worse, and opened the door too. We only stayed a night but of our clothing, baggage, and persons now deeply smell of mildew and those of us with mold allergies have been having a rough time. Overall, I’m just disappointed that either no one is circulating these rooms, someone knows it’s an issue and does nothing, or people have expressed an issue and it’s not fixable. All are honestly unacceptable. Oddly, the hotel behind this one states a similar issue in reviews so I’m not sure what’s up. In the end, I think if you’re able to come here and get a room without this issue, it’ll be excellent. But until I can experience that same scenario, I can’t give this full stars.
