The Olde Windmill Inn

This is a charming place to stay. We have stayed there four times now when visiting friends in the area and would happily go back. Comfortable rooms with good breakfasts. We also had their Cheers for 60 Years lunch, which was well presented and good value and our friends joined us for a first class dinner. This is good, traditional “pub grub” with generous portions, sensibly priced. The staff are friendly and efficient and we felt welcomed. Will go again and have already recommended to friends looking to go to Norfolk.

We stayed for 3 nights in a supposedly deluxe room. the carpet was dirty, especially near the doorway as though something had been spilled and just left to dry. The room was full of cobwebs and on our arrival we used one of the towels to swipe away the numerous webs covering the ceiling, floor lamps and in the corners of the room. Could have been so much nicer had the hotel used a feather duster and a carpet shampooer on a regular basis. Had the room been clean it would have been easy to forgive the very dated decor. Chairs in the dining room filthy, I took to sitting on napkins to protect my clothes, again nothing a regular shampoo couldn't easily have rectified. Now they are so far gone they need recovering instead. Napkins used as seat covers greasy when meal was finished, but at least it wasn't my clothes The menu was heavily steak and burger based, almost everything came with chips and garden peas. Thai Massaman curry on the 1st night was grim, grey and inedible and went back almost untouched, when asked if everything was ok we told the staff "clearly not, the curry was gristly, the sauce split and weak and resembled a defrosted warmed up stew" No one came to ask if there was anything else they could offer. 2nd night we'd booked a table for 5 to eat with family living local. No fish on the menu, scampi had run out (an amusing thought of scampi making a dash for it for the 3 ladies who wanted it). Instead we went for fish cakes and salad, 70's style salad of iceberg lettuce and cress and little else. Dissapointing! We couldn't face a 3rd night so went out to eat and checked out the following day. Perhaps because it has been owned by the same family for so long these problems and issues are not seen, When we checked out we again pointed out to them the Thai Massaman curry was inedible, we were asked if we had notified them at the time and confirmed we had but no one had taken the time to come over to us. No apology was given or comment made and to add insult to injury we were charged full price. Would not recommend as a good place to stay or eat. The bar area was ok and if you like beer there were plenty to choose from. Staff generally were friendly.

Dark, dingy and dated supposedly deluxe room. Hubby thought the bedroom/place was dirty, possibly not helped by the stains on carpets; I can’t say anything else appeared dirty, just generally tired and in need of TLC. Food was ok, just normal pub grub, nothing special. Waitress very pleasant but no other member of staff stood out. Would neither stay there again nor recommend it. Clearly our expectation/experience was different to many other as I only booked as there were mainly good reviews and an acceptable reviewer rating of 4.5!

Excellent stay, very attentive staff and was made to feel welcome from the start. Food brought to the room due to one of the party being delayed in traffic. Room was comfortable and had everything you could need. Our dogs were made welcome too, but I would highlight that there are numerous cats and kittens on site so caution is advised if you have a reactive pooch. I would also like to extend my apologies to the team for the error of forgetting to return the room key on departure! There was a delay in posting it back due to being on the broads for a week after the overnight stay, but the person who called to enquire about the location of the key was very understanding and couldn’t have been kinder. Thank you to all the team at the Windmill for a pleasant and memorable stay.

My family and I went to this restaurant for lunch and it was brilliant. The atmosphere is very cosy and the separate dining rooms prevent the place feeling too overwhelmed or cramped. The room we were in only had a few tables, while others had more, so those may feel like more a squeeze. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed and everything was okay etc. The food was reasonably priced and the portions were huge!! The food quality was also very good. We had the cajun chicken breast, beef pie, cheeseburger and the sausage, egg and chips. My dad said the beef pie was the best he'd ever eaten! (and that is no small compliment) Those meals plus 2 rounds of drinks was £94, which I think was perfectly reasonable considering portion size and quality. We'd definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for a good quality meal in a beautiful setting!

Stayed at this lovely pub for two nights as was going to an event in nearby Thetford Forest. What a fabulous find. We ate in there twice and food was lovely. Great location as near done major towns. Would highly recommend and if we return to this area again know where we will be booking. Also dog friendly.

Popped in for breakfast. The staff were polite and friendly, the breakfast had a good selection of items, including kippers. All served to table. Unlimited coffee and juice. Price was very reasonable at £19 for 2 people. All very nice, would certainly do it again when I’m passing.

Staying for the one night on our long distance walk. We had a nice reception. The room was good and we had a quiet night's sleep. The food was excellent and the staff were lovely. They have a good choice of beers. There is a wide choice of options for breakfast. Ours was delicious. A good stopover.
