Very comfortable hotel with attractive garden. Food was good and staff friendly and helpful. Our room was a large superior one. There were a few aspects which could be improved. Both windows had views of surrounding countryside and the garden, but were obscured by the build-up of grime on them, both inside and out. The light above the sink did not work. Another review mentioned the style of decoration throughout, which is shabby chic, to reflect the building's farming origins. This has been overdone. The tea-making facilities in our room were placed on a well-used artists paintbox, which was paint-spattered and rusty. Not hygenic. The colour-scheme of dark green on the upper floor made it impossible to see the various prints on the wall, or indeed the keyhole of the room door! The lounge area next to the bar and restaurant room, was similarly painted in dark red. Both these areas have no natural lighting and need light colours to enhance them. The bar was cosy, but not well-served by the old saw, wooden paddleboard and very distressed mirror, all on one wall. Outside, the area behind the piggery rooms needs attention. Weed-covered concrete and an old outhouse base need proper landscaping.
