The Crown Hotel, Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire

We were looking for a hotel with a pool - for a relaxing 2 day break. Came across this hotel which seemed to have everything we wanted. It has easy and secure parking. The room, whilst not big had everything we needed - bath and shower, comfortable bed and pillows, coffee pod machine, tea and biscuits. The staff were, without exception, excellent - friendly, polite, professional and efficient. They could not have done more to make our stay comfortable. The pool was lovely - easily big enough. There was a jacuzzi, a steam room and a sauna. This is not a spa with treatments but it is a lovely place to have a swim and relax. The changing room could be upgraded and only had one cubical - but it was acceptable. The food was good. There was a very good choice and it was fairly priced. Wine was a bit pricey - house wine £30 but they were all good wines - so you didn't mind paying. There was a coffee area serving coffee and cakes throughout the day and a well stocked bar. It was a very relaxing place to stay- very good value (they were doing some good one and two night deals) and very enjoyable. Boroughbridge is a good location - close to Harrogate, Knaresborough, York and easy access to the two Yorkshire National Parks I would recommend and we are looking forward to returning'

We went on a package deal which included leisure club access and afternoon tea. The leisure club is old and does require refurbishment, however the facilities were fine for an hour or so and we were provided with gowns and towels. The afternoon tea was excellent. We were able to select from the full coffee menu (more than once). The sandwiches were full of filling and lovely and fresh. The scones were of a decent size and the selection of 6 cakes/mini desserts was delicious. Service was also tip top. Thoroughly recommended!

We opted to say here for my husbands 60th birthday. The hotel is in desperate need of repair. On entering you could see the accessory décor had been updated but otherwise the wallpaper needed attention along with the windows as well as most of the hotel. The receptionist was quite stand offish, not rude but not friendly. Our room was okay and the bed was comfortable, we had everything we needed but the windows were dreadful with mould and flaked paintwork. This could be seen in the corridors which one area the wood was so warped you could see outside! The bathroom was dreadful, mould and dated with the added silver fish in the bath. We only used the toilet and sink because we had to. The spa needed attention and felt grimy. The restaurant was fine as was the food. Staff weren't overly friendly and looked fed up most of the time. Would I visit again absolutely not. The manager did contact me the next day after I complained and he understand my concerns and gave me reasons why, mainly its a listed building so not easy to update the windows. There was a budget for it but no budget for the bathrooms and he agreed they were dated. The Manager kindly offered us a meal at a sister restaurant or an overnight stay to which we agreed and when we contacted him to arrange this he never replied. I contacted Reception, emailed etc and still no reply. Pretty poor show sadly!

We have just enjoyed another lovely 2 day stay here, we just love the decor throughout, the lounge areas and coffee bar to relax in with beautiful furniture. Rooms are tastefully decorated, very comfortable, warm with extra little touches like the radio playing, bottle of water each, fresh milk available. The pool area is so relaxing, warm pool and jacuzzi also clean and well maintained. Changing rooms could do with an upgrade but passable. Food was delicious and plentiful, staff friendly and courteous. Breakfast had a good choice of both hot dishes and cold. Only negative is the service charge added to our restaurant bill without being told or given the option to amend, however, service was very good. Please stock up on the rhubarb gin too as it was also unavailable during our last visit! This was our 3rd visit this year and certainly won't be our last. We look forward to returning soon for another relaxing break (any offers would be appreciated!)

The hotel.is lovely the decor is stylish and clean. The hotel.its self needs abit of updating. Ie windows and bathrooms. But we did not pay a fortune to stay there. Our experience staying there was good. Special mention for a young lad behind the bar he was just brilliant at his job. Breakfasts was delicious meal.on Friday night also the meal was delicious . Just a tip please get Serving staff bringing good out to tie their hair up I had a hair on my breakfast. I know staff want to look nice but as they are Serving food their hair should be tied up. On the Sunday the 10th Nov I don't know what happened at breakfast it seemed unorganised people was complaining there was no orange juice. No pastries. No toaster . We wasn't to bothered but lots of people was. Could have been sorted easily. We would definitely return to the hotel we had a great weekend thankyou.

The room was lovely, comfortable bed with all the amenities you need for a short stay. It was let down by the breakfast and the cleanliness of the spa. The spa closed at 7 on the Saturday evening which we thought was a little early for a Saturday evening so we went in the morning before breakfast. We arrived at 7.40am and headed for the steam room. Looking past the fact that it is old and in need of an update it was so dirty I didn’t want to sit down and wished I’d taken my flip flops. There was hair, dirt and grime everywhere. It had only been open 40mins so to see this level of uncleanliness was unexpected. We then went for breakfast (included in the nights stay) We were greeted and seated by a lovely young lady. She showed us where everything was and told us that breakfast could be a little longer than usual as they were busy. Had no problem with this and appreciated being informed. I went to get juice and pastries but the OJ was empty and there were no pastries left. When I asked if they were replenishing I was told ‘I think people have taken a lot today’. She came to our table 5 minutes later to apologise with two croissants explaining they had run out of pastries. Breakfast was between 7 - 10am we arrived at 8.45! The table next to us arrived 30 minutes later and asked the same, they were simply told ‘sorry we have been really busy today and already been serving breakfast for 2 1/2 hours’. My husband had the full English which he enjoyed and I had the eggs florentine. Described on their menu as creamed spinach with eggs and hollandaise. Guess they were too busy to remember the creamed spinach on my breakfast. When I asked the waitress she seemed confused so I showed her the menu. She said she would replace it but I’d already waited for the meal and didn’t want to wait any longer so declined and ate what I had. Overall not the best experience.
