Travel to Blackpool was impossible due to the effects of 'Storm Bert', which led to heavy snow and flooding all across the North of England and Wales. I needed to cancel the hotel because of this, only to be told I was past the deadline for free cancellation. Two emails were sent to the hotel via the booking agent explaining this situation, to which I merely replied a robotic reply about being “unable” to cancel without paying the full fee. The hotel reservation was then marked as cancelled and all seemed to be fine. Only this morning I find they have taken the full amount for the cancelled hotel from my account. No email. No message. No contact at all. I have previously stayed in this hotel and had left it a review of 3 stars. I have now removed this as you do not deserve any positive publicity of any kind. Charging the full amount with the supercilious excuse of “hotel policy” comes with not only a guaranteed zero star review, but a warning to all other potential guests – This “hotel” does not read, respond or communicate with it's guests. If a problem arises, they will not care. Make no mistake – the hotel was half empty (it was late November in poor weather), and more than 24 hours notice was given before check-in time. Under absolutely no circumstances can the hotel argue they have lost any revenue due to travel being impossible during this time. No bed was slept in. No breakfast was eaten. No services were used. This wasn't even a non-refundable rate, but the full cancellable rate, which was only just over the deadline due to the storm. As for being “unable” to cancel for free due to your policy – do you think I was born yesterday? It is the click of a mouse on a computer, and nothing more. You expect me to believe you are truly unable to do this? You are supposed to be in the “hospitality” industry. I've stayed at the hotel before it's not the Ritz. If you do decided to stay, expect the absolute bare minimum effort on everything (think wobbly flat-pack furniture, poor fitted curtains, ancient plumbing, and dirty windows, you know the kind of thing!)
