The Castle Hotel

We stayed overnight and, having booked directly through the Hotel, received a complimentary upgrade to a suite. The room had been recently and tastefully refurbished to a high standard; it was extremely comfortable, with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. Although it was midweek and during a cold snap, the Hotel was still quite busy serving dinners. Each of the bars had cosy fires lit, serving a selection of cask ales and surprisingly good food. (The mixed game suet starter was a delight.) Breakfast was also top notch . Without exception, the staff were friendly, efficient and well trained. Well done!

We had a lovely two night stay in November at the Castle Hotel! A beautiful old "creaky and twisty" coaching house that really makes you feel as 'though you have just stepped from a horse drawn coach or just pulled up on your 1920's road trip, just like in the movies! After all it's 300 years, it has been sympathetically modernised and retains much of the character from it's early years and is kept spotlessly clean! The room was cosy and warm. The only things I would improve on is levelling the bedside tables with wedges and a couple more lamps for mood lighting. All the staff were warm and welcoming and happy to help with anything. A really nice touch was that you could help yourself to chilled water or milk from a fridge on the landing. Breakfast was splendid (apart from the pancakes being too thick for the Mrs) with a good range to choose from. We had a delicious evening meal, again there was a great choice of dishes. Bishops Castle is a lovely village to visit and a great base for exploring surrounding Shropshire and I don't think we will find anywhere better to stay than the Castle Hotel! We will return!

Great food served in a lovely environment with brilliant views. Went for a Sunday lunch, it was excellent, I couldn’t finish it and I have a healthy appetite. We will be going back to explore the area, stay in the hotel and eat more of there food.

Beautiful room, lovely ambiance in the hotel and the food was gorgeous! The breakfast was fantastic and the hotel gardens were scenic. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back, reasonably priced, thank you for a lovely stay we can’t wait to return.

Wonderful stay. This time we stayed in The Elephant Gatehouse as opposed to the main hotel. The Gatehouse has a shared entrance porch, there are heavy fire doors (could be our age!) which tend to bang shut and the lounge area is upstairs; but these are very minor points, and all this aside, this truly did not spoil our stay we really did enjoy having our own space together, the GH is very comfortable, lovely views from our bedroom across the roof tops, fantastic shower, a dedicated car parking space (very useful!) and a little garden. We came to visit my Mum who lives locally and The Castle is one of her favourite places and we had two excellent evening meals all together. The salmon gin infused and crème fraiche starter was truly delicious! I think what makes this place so very special are the staff, they are all so cheerful, helpful and welcoming. We come to visit my Mum every two months and staying at The Castle is always a pleasure and we have moved our future bookings to The Gatehouse as we enjoyed it so much.

Attended for a recent overnight stay . Staff were very friendly and welcoming throughout . The building has lots of character and free onsite parking . Room was spacious and bathroom was a really good size . Breakfast had a really good choice and was yummy . Would stay again .
