This was a holiday for four friends to celebrate a birthday and an anniversary. We were dropped off on the main road and had to make our way around to the hotel, passing some rather ‘fragrant’ bins at the back of McDonald’s. Upon entering the hotel we thought we’d stumbled on to a building site, as there were workmen everywhere, no floors, a make shift reception desk, a strong smell of a chemical substance (could have been glue or paint) power tools, cables and ladders littered around as far as the eye could see. When we spoke to the receptionist about this, she just shrugged and said we should have been informed there were renovations going on by our travel operator. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, when we entered our rooms, we were dismayed to find them looking very tired and grubby, with some very questionable stains on the walls, threadbare chairs and a broken bedside cabinet with a nail sticking out. There were no facilities like a fridge or kettle, which we assumed would be a basic commodity in a supposedly 3* hotel in this day and age. We contacted our travel operator to complain, emailing photos and videos as evidence but were told there was nothing they could do, as there wasn’t any availability for a superior room, nor could they move us to any other of their hotels even though we said we’d pay to extra to move somewhere else. One of our party even went to the manager and complained but he fobbed her off with meaningless platitudes and apologies. We were met every morning of our stay (except weekends) by the delightful sound of power tools, cutting, sawing and drilling, had to walk through clouds of dust and the sight/sound of workmen using nail guns and strong smelling chemicals to get to the restaurant. Not once did any of the staff on reception apologise for the disruption nor ask if we were ok, even though the work went on the whole time we were there. The restaurant was clean, the staff friendly and hard working, especially Felisa, but the food could be hit and miss, although most items were replenished regularly and there was a decent selection of fresh fruit every time. We didn’t stay around the hotel much (for obvious reasons) but when we did, in the bar areas, Anabel was a gem, nothing was too much trouble for her, as was the other female staff member, but I didn’t get her name. Unfortunately, the negatives of our stay outweighed any positives these couple of staff offered, and I would highly recommend avoiding this hotel, at least until the rooms have been upgraded, although given that they continued with some major renovations while the hotel stayed open, I dread to think what the noise and disruption would be like if they decided to carry out the upgrade while the place still accepts guests. I’ve only added a small selection of photos, as the site won’t allow uploads of videos, so you could appreciate the unbearable and definitely not restful noise.
