Due to elevation, the average temperature is 20 -25 degrees cooler than the Charlotte/ATL/Eastern NC areas, and approximately 10 degrees cooler than other “mountain towns” due to the high elevation. Because of this, it is required during the winter months that you have a 4WD or AWD vehicle due to snow and/or ice.
