Young Island Resort

A nice and peaceful visit-the journey on the boat taxi made it a beautiful start. I arrived there Saturday morning and stayed about one and a half hours. You have to make a reservation with the island for the day trips. However, they are usually fully booked. I recommend taking a boat taxi, pretty affordable. You may not get on the island boat without a reservation--so boat taxi is your option. DIRECTIONS: go to the area where Mangoz Restaurant and Bar is. You will see a small entrance between 2 buildings, with a security guard. ASK FOR KEVIN, he operates the boat taxi and is very reliable. You may have to wait 5 minutes if he is dropping someone off on Young Island. You will enjoy the island, you can snorkel too. The island bar has great drinks, but some day trippers took their own. The rum punch at the bar was quenching! The bartender was beautiful and kind and hospitable.

You may only be 200 metres from St Vincent but you feel like you are in a world of your own . If you want boxy homogenised living this is not the place for you . If you want true Caribbean style and character then it is the place for you . The staff were friendly efficient and a true credit to the resort . The food is totally delicious .. I looked forward to dinner every night (first night excluded as I had no idea at that point ) even though I had no idea what would be on the menu . The beach may be on the small side but there were enough sun beds and space to have a degree of privacy . The pool has the most beautiful setting and divided into two halves by way of its design , a deeper half and a shallower which was about 4ft deep . For me the best hotel pool I have ever swum in. I know others have mentioned the loud music on Friday and Saturday from across the water … it is loud but not enough to keep us awake and did it spoil our enjoyment .. definitely not. I don’t drink alcohol but their non-alcoholic cocktail list had more than enough choices for me and the bar staff were very friendly . Would I recommend Young Island Resort … absolutely .

Very rude employees, over all pool service. It started with the boat trip over to Young Island, the captain was yelling to us and was very rude. The same attitude with the receptionist and also in the restaurant. It was extremely uncomfortable to stay there!! We had expected first class service on this Island. The Island it self and also the room, is very nice, but you feel that you bother the people who work there so it was not pleasant at all. We were happy to leave!

We had a super week at Young Island Resort. Loved our cottage, the beach, gardens, wildlife (tree frogs at night), and the always friendly and helpful staff. We especially wanted to send our thanks again to the General Manager, Bianca, for all her help when the first hop of our flight home was cancelled - and British Airways was no help at all. Bianca spent her entire evening in finding and booking an alternative flight for us so that we made our planned second hop. It was very much appreciated. Thank you!

My wife and I stayed at Young Island for 3 delightful nights. I'll give bullet points in no particular order -The ferry to the shore runs reliably 24 hours a day. Easy to manage and it takes 5 minutes to cross. Its like taking the elevator in a tall hotel. Cute little covered gondola that probably seats 10 people. -The loud music from the club across the water occurs on Friday and Saturday nights. It is loud and gets very loud at like 2 or 3 in the morning. I found it funny in a cultural way. It all depends on your outlook on life. -The resort grounds are well maintained, for the most part. Its a boutique resort, not Sandals. Its got a homey, tropical atmosphere. Its got history. Its got steps. My wife thinks it's kitschy in a good way. Beautiful flowers and the sound of tree frogs at night. -Our room was very nice - cottage like, clean, well painted, lighted, attractive, beachy furniture. Refrigerator. Outlets. Ceiling fan. AC. Nice patio with privacy yet with great views of the shore. -The very large walk in outdoor shower is great. You can enter from the patio or the bathroom. Its really spacious and private. -The king size bed had nice sheets but I lost feeling in my arms and hands each night. I guess it was firm. -The staff are truly special, like everyone in SVG. So kind, helpful, sincere. We met a few locals and told them we were staying Young Island and they seemed to approve. It is well respected and supported. -Food was better than expected. We ended up having dinner at Young all 3 nights and the food got better each night. I think the food is better than almost everywhere else in St Vincent with maybe the exception of Four Shells down the street, which we never made it to because it was closed both times we tried to go. The Saturday night bbq buffet was good. The best part was the steel band that played nonstop for 3 hours. They were really good. We got room service one night and the food was really tasty and delivery was prompt. Breakfasts were filling and very tasty - Carribbean breakfast includes fish, doughboys, plantain. Coffee is hot and good! Flambe'd coconut french toast was good and a visual show. Eating by the beach doesnt get any better. -The bar is cozy and appealing. We tested Pina Coladas throughout SVG and Young's was by far the best. We ate dinner at the bar one night after an exhausting but thrilling hike to the Soufriere volcano. -The location is great. There are restuants across the water. Its about 15 minutes by taxi to downtown Kingstown. -The beach is small - maybe 50 yards - but the sand is clean and the water is nice. There is a band of corral debris that you have to walk through which gives it an authentic beach character. Its not an exotic beach but it will definitely cure what ails you. There is bar in the water but it was closed while we were there. Not quite peak season. -The pool is tucked away in a beautiful tropical forest. We swam in it once while it was raining. As I sit awaiting my flight home, I can honestly say leaving Young Island is like leaving family which leaves a longing for your return. My husband and I were able to spend 11 glorious nights on Young Island this visit and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. We stayed in cottage 9 and appreciated its close proximity to the beach, pool as well as the restaurant and bar! Listening to the waves crashing outside our cottage was a definite delight for us. The bed was so very comfortable and enjoyed each night’s sleep (and afternoon naps)! We always enjoy the experience of the outside shower! The cottage had everything we could want or need. The food whether at breakfast, lunch or dinner was exquisite and the staff were just always so friendly - they have truly captured our hearts! We appreciated greatly the hard work of all the staff. The ladies who cleaned our room each day are all so lovely and exceptional at what they do. Hermus, Charles and Lennox all deserve a mention who busily look after transporting guests to and from Young Island and found them all to be a such a pleasure and good laugh! Of course I cannot fail to mention the resort’s long standing General Manager Bianca Porter who always makes us feel so very welcome and goes that extra mile to ensure our stay provides all that we could need.
