What a joy, so close to Takaka to step into dramatic landscapes - limestone cliffs, beautiful seascapes, then the wetlands, and a few minutes to the wild or peaceful West coast beaches. We love walking and exploring so this accommodation was well placed. Short walk past the weta house on site, the gorgeous nikau grove walk, beach walks, lake walk and short walks in the wetlands from the visitor centre. Unfortunately we missed the turn off to the latter; upside tide in for beautiful views on the drive out. There's longer walks too but we like a balance of chill time 😊 The separate pod accommodation is comfortable and well equipped. Information is provided on the area's history and hosts Sally and Giff bulge with information on that and the natural environment. They are available as needed but also unobtrusive. We loved our night trip to view the glow worm grotto alive with native koura and cave weta as well. And the dark skies out there revealed fantastic viewing. We left after 2 nights feeling like we'd had a weeks holiday. Lunch at Takaka in the way home - couldn't be better. Thanks Sally & Giff (even posted my sunglasses back).
