The Maverick Inn

I love to stay at the Maverick when I am visiting Alpine and Fort Davis 💜Spacious and private rooms, comfortable beds and linens. Charming southwestern decor. Across the street from Sul Ross University. Close to everything in town. Always a laid back and cool time😎

The shower stall was stained, earplugs were provided to block out the highway and railroad noises. The chair was probably leather at one time. The toilet lid was not in the best of shape. The fan rattled. the room was no where near the size of the picture on the website. The bed squeeked. We immediately checked out and checked into another hotel

Having to check in at another hotel was a strange one, especially as we had very poor service at check in, and left us with a bad taste in our moth then driving another mile up the road to our room. The room felt a bit sketchy and not particularly secure, but we had no issues. The bed was rickety, and the bathroom was tiny (my knees hit the wall across from the toilet). We didn’t feel it was the best value, but we slept ok and was a reasonable place to rest our heads for a night.

We enjoyed our stay at the Maverick Inn. It is a cute motel, it’s in a good location, and our room was clean. The pool was nice but it was a little too cold for swimming while we were there. We stayed in one of the rooms that has a kitchenette with a microwave, full size refrigerator, sink, and a two burner cook top. A few pots & pans, a coffee maker, a few cooking utensils, a colander, a few knives and a couple of wine glasses were provided. Some dishwashing liquid was provided too. However we were a little surprised to find that there were no dishes, forks, spoons, or paper towels in the kitchen. We asked the front desk if those items were supposed to be in the kitchen and was basically told that what we found in the kitchen was it. So be sure to bring your own plates, bowls, cups, forks, spoons, and paper towels. And bring your own coffee filters too if you want to drink any thing other than the coffee that the hotel provides. Luckily there is a Dollar General store next door to the Maverick Inn where we were able to pick up some of these items for cheap.

It was my wife’s birthday so I wanted it to be great. We thought the room was cute until bedtime when we discovered the door doesn’t lock. There is no deadbolt either, just a chain lock which could easily be broken in to. So we placed an ice chest in front of the door and slept with my pistol on the nightstand. Next morning I texted front desk and they said they would send maintenance over. We took our valuables and went on a four hour drive through the country. We returned, the door still wasn’t fixed. Called the front desk and they said the maintenance man had not checked in with them. I told them to forget it. For three nights we stayed there with no lock on the door. Our room had a garden tub in which you would have to be acrobat to get in. The shower was located above the tub and due to the size of the shower curtain it got water all over the bathroom. And last but not least, the toilet area was so small I had to sit on it sideways to fit! Other than those problems it was a nice stay.

Our Girl Scout Troop used this as a base for our West Texas adventure. Close proximity (that's relative) to everything that we wanted to do. The pool is great! Wonderful service. We rented 5 units. One had a kitchen with a full sized fridge and small cook top. We utilized the large grill in the courtyard. Important to realize that it is not the Ritz, but it is clean, charming, cold a/c, and a pool in the desert. Highly recommend. Would stay here again.

This looked unique online (like the El Rey in Santa Fe). We are prepared for less comfort if the accommodation is clean with personality. I have to agree with the reviews that say this hotel needs some tweeking. Price also affects a review and we paid top price (my fault for not looking carefully at the confirmation when I called from the road). I would have been satisfied at $100/ night. $200 a night for our room is highway robbery. The room was dark so we used headlamps to read. The room was clean enough, but the pillows were awful and the mattress was just ok. The train in the middle of the night with at least 3-4 full minutes of whistle blowing was a bit rough. We were disappointed.

Loved this place. If you're looking for a 5 star experience (smart TV's, hot tubs, concierge, etc...) in the face of the advertised historic and true representation of the original property, you're in the wrong place. It's West Texas... and this place is a GEM. A local, historical marvel with a history all its' own. Will definitely be back. Staff was informative, responsive, and incredibly helpful whilst roaming, to us at least, unchartered territory. Wonderful experience. Can't wait to go back when the pool is open in Summer. Great jumping off point to explore the area if that's what you're into. In fact, we forgot a Roku that we travel with to various destinations and forgot it there. Their response was fast. They found it and shipped it within 24 hours back to my home 5 hours away. Love these guys.

We come to Alpine every year or so, last time was January 2023, and always stay at the Maverick. It is a very comfortable, conveniently located motel. Southwestern style inside and out, tile floors, small bathrooms, comfortable beds. The only real drawback is noise from the road and the train, but the motel provides clean, unused ear-plugs in every room. I’ve never used them, as the noise doesn’t bother me, but I have heard others complain of it. No breakfast here, although they put out granola bars and coffee in the lobby. There is a very good place for breakfast, Magoo’s, in close walking distance.
