Thermen-Hotels in Yunnan, China

When I started planning our itinerary for our 15 day Yunnan holiday, I plotted out our path to go all the way up to Shangri-la, back down to Kunming and then to Jiaozi Snow Mountain and Dongchuan Red Land. Then I chanced upon a video of Aini Garden and fell in love! The only reason we came to Pu'er was to get to Aini. This was the first place I booked, and I really took a chance because it has a no cancellation policy and I really had to stick to the date once it was made. The initial pre-arrival experience was less than pleasant. I didn't know how we were going to get to the manor and my WeChat messages went unanswered. The hotel we stayed at in Pu'er finally got in touch with someone and got them to message me. I asked how we could get there and the answer was a curt ”take a taxi or charter a car”. No pleasantries of ”we look forward to seeing you” or offering to arrange a car. When we arrived, no one was at reception and no one came out. Our driver was so perplexed he wondered if we were in the right place and if the place was open. Finally a young girl came out and registered us in. There was an air of aloofness from everyone else. However, once we were checked in, things warmed up quickly. We were offered coffee and freshly cut papaya and had a nice introduction chat with the lady staff. The bedroom and bathroom is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. We would have enjoyed sitting on the balcony if the chairs were more comfortable. I love the floor to ceiling glass windows but the panel above the door should also be glass (it is just netting) so traffic sounds from the road actually comes through at night. I actually wanted to book the cottage in the hills but opted for the standard room in the main house because I was worried it would be cold. Big regret as it is actually magnificently located with stunning views. However take note that you will need to call for a buggy ride or make a 1km hike every time you want to eat or get to the main house. If you are self driving, no issues as you can park right next to the cottage. Anyway it's a small price to pay for an unlimited view of the milky way and seclusion. This is as close to a Ryokan experience as you can get in China, minus the hot springs. 3 days 2 nights of blissful, carefree living is not quite enough. They make sure they feed you well, with the freshest produce available for hotpot dinner and home-cooked Yunnanese dishes for lunch. There are so many activities organised, from taking you up the mountain for a glimpse of sunrise (with mountain goats for company ❤️) to coffee plantation education tour to horseback riding along the mountain ridges (the view is spectacular!) to scavenging for wild vegetables and fruits to drinking, dancing and singing around the campfire! So much to do, so little time! One area of improvement I personally would like to see is the coffee serving. They tend to be quite snobbish about how their coffee is taken. Neat, with nothing else. Asking for sugar or milk feels nearly scorned upon. Coffee is a versatile drink and can be savoured in a huge variety of ways. How else is Starbucks so successful? I felt kind of stifled and deprived because I love a good latte and had looked forward to enjoying an unlimited indulgence of coffee throughout our stay. Anyhow, I love the ecotourism efforts here. It feels natural and unpretentious. I love the people and the camaraderie they cultivate. I especially enjoyed talking to their consultant 敬梅, a beautiful lady with extensive knowledge in Yunnan culture and ecological progress. Also thank you to 徐芳 for arranging transport back to town and giving helpful recommendations. We hope to return again.

Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse, Dali | A poetic stay in a century-old Bai courtyard We’ve just returned from Dali, and the place we keep thinking about most is this hidden gem at the foot of Cangshan Mountain — Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse. Oriental aesthetics in every corner The guesthouse is converted from a century-old traditional Bai courtyard house. With its grey-tiled roofs, white walls, and beautifully carved wooden structures, the space carries a quiet sense of history and elegance. The courtyard features water elements, stone paths, and blue and yellow lanterns that create beautiful layers of light and shadow during the day. At night, the soft lighting outlines the architecture and gives the entire space a warm, cinematic atmosphere. The common areas are equally charming, with a stone-built fireplace, vintage furniture, and art pieces thoughtfully placed throughout. The design blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with modern touches, creating a space that feels both timeless and refined. Comfort with thoughtful details Our room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable. A stone feature wall behind the bed, paired with soft bedding and warm lighting, created a subtle sense of “wild luxury” while still feeling cosy and relaxed. Opening the window reveals the courtyard view — waking up to birdsong in the morning and watching the lanterns glow in the evening adds a special charm to the stay. Warm and attentive service From booking to check-out, the hosts were welcoming and attentive. Upon arrival, they introduced the history of the house and highlighted the design features of the property, and were happy to recommend nearby restaurants and local spots to explore. The afternoon tea was beautifully presented, with fresh fruit and delicate snacks — perfect for enjoying a slow afternoon in the courtyard. Breakfast included some local Bai-style flavours, simple yet delicious, and a lovely way to start the day. A peaceful location near the old town The guesthouse is tucked away in Zhongyin Village at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, about a 15-minute drive from Dali Ancient Town. It offers a quiet retreat away from the crowds while still being conveniently close to the main attractions. Surrounded by village life and forested hills, the air feels fresh and full of the scent of nature. More than just a place to stay, Mutian Time feels like a living piece of art. It brought a sense of calm and poetry to our trip to Dali. Der Check-in war großartig! Erstens war der Service vorgestern herzlich und aufmerksam. Als wir das nächste Mal eincheckten, ergriff der Kellner die Initiative, um den Koffer abzuholen Initiative, uns ein Thermalbad-Ticket zu schenken. Die Hotelzimmer sind im chinesischen Stil eingerichtet. Vom Balkon aus konnten wir sehen, wie sich die Kinder und Erwachsenen in den heißen Quellen vergnügten persönlich! Die Türen und Fenster sind sehr leise, wenn Sie die vom Boden bis zur Decke reichenden Fenster schließen, hören Sie das Geräusch der heißen Quellen draußen nicht! Es waren mehr als fünf Personen am Thermalquellenbuffet und wir haben nichts gegessen. Der Flug startete am Abflugtag um 7 Uhr morgens und das Hotel bereitete herzlich ein tragbares Frühstück zum Mitnehmen vor. Alles in allem war dieser Aufenthalt ein tolles Erlebnis und die Kinder waren begeistert!

Wunderschönes Hotel mit sehr gutem Service. Mein Freund und ich haben insgesamt 6 Nächte in diesem klasse Hotel verbracht. Der Aufenthalt war grandios!!! Das Hotel ist äußerst sauber und befindet sich auf einem sehr großen Gelände mit gepflegtem Exterior sowie wunderschönen Pflanzen und vielen kleinen süßen Tieren, die man selbst füttern kann. Die Aussicht vom Hotel ist atemberaubend. Man kann den Dragon Jade Berg (玉龙雪山) direkt vom Hotel sehen. Die Hotelmitarbeiter (Frühstück, Rezeption/Empfang,Concierge) waren alle stets sehr hilfreich und freundlich. Wir konnten alle unsere Wünsche jeder Zeit über We-Chat klären - das war klasse! Wir bekamen außerdem bei der Ankunft ein kostenloses Update und sogar ein warmes Welcome-Getränk aufs Zimmer. Das Essen ist erstklassig - Frühstück ist sowohl chinesisch als auch westlich, also für jeden was dabei. Wir würden das Hotel nächstes Mal, wenn wir nach Lijiang reisen wieder buchen und wir würden es allen empfehlen, die nach Lijiang reisen und was besonders erleben wollen. 和男朋友出来旅行在丽江铂尔曼住了6晚！超级满意前台的小姐姐们都很热情真的有一点舍不得走了，很愉快的旅行酒店里边很出片又有很多小动物，超级可爱酒店很适合出来度假休息非常安静不会吵闹，入住前就有热情的联系我入住需求了很贴心～铂尔曼果然没有让我失望

Das B&B, das ich dieses Mal gebucht habe, hat wirklich eine gute Bewertung verdient. Es ist in der Tat das Hotel, für dessen Auswahl ich die meiste Zeit und Überlegung aufgewendet habe, und es war sein Geld wert. Es fühlt sich an wie ein B&B, das von ein paar jungen Leuten geführt wird, und der Service ist wirklich großartig. Ich begann am Tag vor dem Check-in anzurufen, um zu fragen, ob ich am Flughafen abgeholt oder abgesetzt werden musste. Dann war der Typ, der mich am Bahnhof abholte, sehr enthusiastisch und half mir, mich vorzustellen und mein Gepäck unterwegs abzuholen . Das gesamte Personal ist sehr nett und enthusiastisch und bietet einen Butler-Service. Der Innenhof ist auch wunderschön und das Frühstück ist köstlich. Ich konnte am nächsten Tag einfach nicht aufstehen und habe es nicht gegessen. Es liegt ganz in der Nähe der antiken Stadt Dali. Wenn ich das nächste Mal wieder nach Dali komme, werde ich hoffentlich wieder hier übernachten eine lange Zeit ~ (Vielen Dank für den Milchtee und die Blumenkuchen. )

Honestly, I rarely post reviews—but this time I really felt like I had to, because this hotel was the highlight of my family trip to Yunnan. From the moment we entered the hotel gate, we were already amazed. The place is even more beautiful in real life than in the photos. The staff member who communicated with us via WeChat was incredibly helpful—from arranging our transfer from the station to the hotel, to accommodating my dietary restrictions as a Muslim. They kindly prepared a special breakfast for us: rice noodles with egg, along with sweet potatoes, corn, and boiled eggs. What made it even more special was that everything was cooked by a very warm grandmother. Despite the language barrier, we could truly feel the warmth and love in her cooking. The cabin we booked was absolutely perfect. It had a spacious yard, a hot tub, and a terrace with a table and chairs—great for dining or simply spending time together with family. Stepping inside the cabin was even more impressive: a large bed, lots of natural light, and equipped with smart home devices. One important detail for us was the bathroom—it had a bidet and a fully smart toilet with remote control. Since the temperature in Lijiang varies greatly between day and night, we were very grateful that the cabin had both floor heating and room heating. The bedroom also featured a large projector, and above it, a sunroof that can be opened—perfect for stargazing at night. It truly exceeded all our expectations. The hotel area is also next to a very aesthetic café with a stunning view called Yuntian Cafe. For those traveling with family, this place is perfect—the area is spacious and great for kids to explore nature. If you want to go out for meals, Baisha Ancient Town is just a few kilometers away. What I will remember the most is the kindness of the staff. Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly, always doing their best to accommodate every request. Please never change—your hospitality feels just like being with family. Next time we visit Lijiang, we will definitely stay here again without hesitation.

Die Besitzerin und die Mitarbeiter sind unglaublich herzlich und freundlich, knüpfen gerne Kontakte und bieten einen außergewöhnlichen Service. Ich bin zum Skifahren nach Shangri-La gefahren und habe zusammen mit meinem Snowboarder in diesem Hotel übernachtet. Es war so komfortabel. Es gibt auch heiße Quellen, in denen Sie nach dem Skifahren kostenlos baden können, um Müdigkeit zu lindern. Am frühen Morgen sah ich den Shika-Schneeberg und Rizhao Jinshan vom Infinity-Pool auf dem Dach des Hotels aus. Die Hotellobby ist sehr prächtig und es gibt einen schönen und sauberen Waschraum. Our stay in this luxury bedroom suite was a memorable experience, largely due to the exceptional accommodations. The suite itself was nothing short of spectacular—incredibly spacious and warmly appointed. The layout was impeccably designed, featuring a foyer, a living area, a comfortable bedroom, and a walk-in wardrobe. The bathroom was a highlight, with a separate water closet, a vanity area with a deep-soaking bathtub, and a separate, spacious double shower room. The private outdoor sitting area that led to a huge, rejuvenating hot spring was the crown jewel of the suite. It's important to note the location within the Dong Feng Yun Scenic Area. A significant benefit is that the hotel provides the scenic area entrance ticket and transport to and from the gate, which is excellent. However, its setting means it is quite far from Jianshui's Old Town and other key locations. This can be inconvenient when you wish to visit other spots or find dining options outside the hotel. A major logistical issue we encountered was with return trips. When trying to get back to the hotel, most taxi drivers requested a top-up payment, as they would have to return to the city center without a passenger. Service at the hotel was generally good; the staff were prompt and attentive upon our arrival and throughout our stay. However, we noted a noticeable drop in attentiveness during the checkout process. A minor point to note is the centralized A/C system, which meant we couldn't control the room temperature individually. That said, the provision of a standing fan was a thoughtful and effective solution. The food at the hotel's restaurant was acceptable, though it didn't quite match the exceptional standard of the suite itself. Overall, this is a truly magnificent property for the space and privacy it offers, but its remote location requires careful planning and extra budget for transportation.

Byredo shampoo, conditioner and body soap… Very near baisha guzhen, even provided bbq at night. The host is really attentive. We went for a hike to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which we needed to leave the hotel at 7am. We casually asked the host what time breakfast starts, and breakfast starts at 8am. Briefly mentioned we’ll miss the breakfast and they prepared a bunch of snacks - buns, eggs, yoghurts and milk and left it at the reception for us to bring along to eat while on the way 🥺.
